Batteries & Energy Storage
Coastal 1 was the first of the new generation batteries to be installed in Hawaii. Coastal 1 is a 1 MW lithium Titanate battery that is programmable for different uses but is now used for power smoothing as well as frequency control. The battery was installed 2012, and has been performing well every since.
SCI is the installation contractor for the Coastal ll battery installation for Altair-Nano. The battery installation is in the Campbell Industrial Park for Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO). The 1.5 MW battery will be used for grid stability in the HECO grid. Construction began in the summer of 2015 and is expected to be commissioned during the first quarter of 2016.
SCI is constructing a new 2.5 MW battery system on the island of Molokai, Hawaii for Altair-Nano.
